Koroneiki Variety

The olive trees Koroneiki variety can be found firstly in Messinia according to the name of the town Koroni, because this variety firstly cultivated in southern Messinia. Nowadays can be found also in other area of Greece, such as Crete and Mani. However, different agriculture methods, results in a radical difference in density, texture and aroma of the olive oil.

The height of the tree is 5 - 8 meters and has a dark green leaf almost 5 centimeters long, and 1 centimeter width. An olive has a cylindrical shape, with an average weight of 1.3 grams. The wrist-core ratio is 6.6:1, and the oil content of the fruit varies from 15% to 28%.

The small size of Koroneiki olive can produce  golden color oil, with low acidity, and generally, exciting fruity flavor and intense aroma.

The olive oil from Messinian groves is different from others because of:

    the unique subsoil nutrients
    the climate
    the unique agricultural methods which applied in Messinia


By focusing on quality rather than quantity, and following the traditional agricultural methods we end up with an olive oil that has a vivid olive-green color, wonderfully distinctive taste, and unique texture.

Medical information of Koroneiki olive oil

The medical properties have long been documented and proven. Koroneiki olive variety contains high amounts of elaiokanthalis, a substance with potent anti-inflammatory activity, comparable to those encountered in medicine, and elaiasini, which is the most potent antioxidant of olive oil.

The elaiokanthali substance causes a spicy sensation in the throat upon swallowing.

Elaisini is a derivative of oleuropein and is the most important antioxidant in olive oil.

Elaiokanthali has significant anti-inflammatory properties acting as an inhibitor of COX-1 and COC-2.

It also appears to have a protective effect against Alzheimer’s disease, anticancer properties and helps skin aging control.
